Hello
Ben,
My name
is Vinny Sciascia and I want to start off first by saying I am a huge fan of
yours, and that I love the way the new blog looks over on Medium! That being
said I, alongside my colleague, Adam Gage, would love to present our project to
you in hopes, that you can give us feedback, and/or pass this along through the
ranks of the MiLB office if you like what you hear. First, however, we’d like
to introduce ourselves so that you have a better understanding of who we are.
Introductions
Vinny-
I’m a Junior at Western Carolina University majoring in English Education, as
well as English Literature. I was born and raised just outside of Charlotte,
North Carolina and grew up playing sports, though now at the tender age of 20,
it seems my best days on the field are far behind me.
Adam-
I’m also a 20-year-old Junior, majoring in Accounting at North Carolina State
University. As a kid, I played basketball, golf, and of course, baseball.
Retiring from the sport after 12 years of Little League and travel ball, I
enjoy reliving my highlights and talking about my glory days as an All-star
shortstop.
Together,
we have been best friends for over half a decade, and our shared passion for
sports, especially baseball, is what prompted the development of the proceeding
proposal.
Plan
Our plan
is to tour the Minor League circuit, attending as many games as possible, while
showcasing the wackiest and greatest things Minor League Baseball has to offer.
We would document our trips with vlogs, blogs, tweets and more, all while
promoting the Minor League brand. Upon the end of our tour, we rank our visits
in numerous categories ranging from best mascots and overall atmosphere to best
food items and souvenir cups!
This
sounds like a great idea right? Well it is, and it has already been thought of
and implemented for the past few years…by you. Clearly, your blog and travels
is what has given us the inspiration for a trip of our own. You’re probably
wondering why the heck we’re pitching a job to the man currently holding the
position, right? The answer to this is simple; we’d be coming at this project
from another another angle. You focus your work on team operations and
promotions, whereas we want to endorse the zany fun that can be found in
ballparks nation-wide, with our target market being the everyday and younger
generational fan.
We do
realize that this is a similar role, but we are hoping that with your help, we
can supplement the phenomenal platform of which you have started, to reach a
larger number of people across the board.
With
this in mind, I want to reference an up and coming company in the sports media
industry called Barstool Sports. They went from being nothing more than a satirical
sports blog, to having almost every young-adult in America waving flags with
Barstool’s logo on it. They did this by simply having a team of staff members
show up to various sporting events nationwide, and documenting their travels in
an engaging way. That is exactly what we are trying to do with Minor League
Baseball. We want to be faces of the new generations of baseball fans, and we
want to fill the stands of minor league stadiums everywhere with youthful and
enthusiastic spirits.
So Why Us?
Wanting
to be the faces of an organization that doesn’t know we exist is a bold
aspiration that takes charisma and personality. Thankfully, jam packed in two
6-footers from North Carolina is that very thing. If I’m Mr. Personality, then
Adam is Mr. Charisma. Individually we’re great (and humble), but together we’re
as dynamic as any duo there has ever been. Hopefully, this will prompt some
sort of interest or intrigue that will merit an interview so that you can see
for yourselves that we truly are the guys for the job.
What We’re Asking
So by
now I’m sure you have thought at least once or twice while reading this email,
“Cool plan, but why are they telling me about it?” Well, as stated previously,
we would love to have a backing for this project; an organization supporting and
promoting our promotion of them…it’s a full-circle kind of thing. The way MiLB
promotes your travels is what we would love to have. That being said, we are
not trying take anything away from you
in the slightest! We love your “Designated Eater” videos and your corny puns.
Heck, we’d love to travel with you if that were possible! We just want to grow
the phenomenal platform that you currently have, to maximize its potential. As
the old adage goes, “There’s strength in numbers”
Extra Tidbits
Just so
you know were not two inexperienced fans who thought this would be fun, here is
a little more regarding our credentials (Resumes can be provided).
I,
Vinny, am well read and consider myself to be a fairly proficient writer. When
I was a Junior in high school I actually created a music review website that
ran for just over three years. Within those three years, I garnered over 55,000
readers through consistent content creation, as well as marketing my site by
way of the many social media outlets. Though the site is no longer operating,
it can still be viewed here: ucarb.blogspot.com
Adam, on
the other hand, currently works as a marketing agent for a local fan shop in
Raleigh, North Carolina. With that, learning the basics of all sides of business,
excelling in business courses over the past 3 years of schooling.
